Both clubs are one win away from lifting their first Cup tomorrow night in Vaughan

After months of competition, the 2026 Women’s OPL Cup comes down to one night.

Guelph United and Hamilton United will battle for the trophy tomorrow night at Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre Stadium in Vaughan, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Tickets remain available for supporters hoping to be there when the 2026 Cup champions are crowned.

The matchup brings together two clubs that have earned their place in the final through very different journeys. Guelph United enter as one of the OPL1’s top sides, while Hamilton United have put together an impressive Cup run from OPL2 to reach the first Women’s Cup Final in club history.

For Guelph, Wednesday’s Final caps a successful first season under head coach Michael Warden. His side has overcome quality opposition, long travel and even a weather delay that forced one Cup match to be completed the following weekend, all while maintaining the belief and identity that has defined its season.

“The belief that the group has shown in every moment, and the support that they show each other, has been integral to our success,” Warden said. “They don’t get caught up with who we’re playing, the conditions or the situation. They focus on the task at hand and do what needs to be done.”

Despite entering from the higher division, Warden is expecting a difficult test.

“In the Ontario Premier League, regardless of tier, there is no easy game. Every team is good and, on their day, every team can beat you.”

He expects the opening stages to be cautious as the two clubs meet for the first time this season before the match begins to open up.

“I expect it’s going to be a good match,” Warden said. “It’ll probably be a little bit cagey at the beginning as the teams feel each other out because we haven’t played them and they haven’t played us. As the match goes on, I think it’ll be some good football, and hopefully football that is deserving of a Cup Final.”

Standing opposite Guelph will be a Hamilton United side that has become one of the stories of this year’s competition.

The OPL2 club has embraced what head coach Carmine Lancia describes as “two seasons in one,” balancing its Cup campaign alongside regular season league play while knocking off strong opposition to reach tomorrow’s Cup match.

“We’re really proud of the fact that we were able to get Hamilton United to the OPL Cup Women’s Final,” Lancia said. “We’re coming from a division below, but we think we’re going to give them a good game. We’ll be very competitive.”

Hamilton’s run has also seen younger players step into important roles alongside experienced veterans, something Lancia believes has strengthened the group heading into the biggest match in program history.

Interestingly, both coaches pointed to many of the same details when discussing what could decide the final.

Set pieces, discipline and attention to detail were recurring themes from both benches, underscoring the fine margins that often determine championship matches. Warden believes Guelph’s ability to play on the front foot and control the tempo will be key, while Lancia emphasized remaining organized and limiting mistakes against an experienced opponent.

A victory would represent a milestone for either club.

For Guelph, it would deliver the first major trophy for a women’s program that has steadily grown in recent years.

“It takes an entire club to get here,” Warden said. “This match is for them as well.”

For Hamilton, lifting the Cup would cap a remarkable run from OPL2 and mark another significant step in the continued growth of the club.

As his players prepare for the final, Lancia’s message remains simple: “Play the game, not the event.”
