Setting the Standard: June’s OPL Women’s Three Stars

Maroudas, Cirone and Chown earn recognition after a standout month

As the 2026 Ontario Premier League women’s season continued through June, clubs across all three divisions strengthened their push toward the top of the standings.

With title races beginning to take shape, several players delivered the kind of performances that helped separate their teams from the pack. This month’s Three Stars recognize one standout player from each division, celebrating excellence across OPL1, OPL2 and OPL3.

Whether anchoring one of the league’s stingiest defences, leading from the back for a club climbing the table or continuing a remarkable goalscoring campaign, Demi Maroudas, Emily Cirone and Hannah Chown each made a significant impact throughout June.

Demi Maroudas – St. Catharines Roma (OPL3)

Few players across the OPL enjoyed a more productive month than St. Catharines Roma forward Demi Maroudas.

Maroudas, 23, scored eight goals in June, including two hat tricks, to continue what has been a sensational season in front of goal. After opening the campaign with four goals in her first three matches, Maroudas has only accelerated her scoring pace and now leads all OPL women’s divisions in the Golden Boot race.

Her goals have helped power St. Catharines Roma to an unbeaten record of 11 wins and one draw, with the club sitting comfortably atop the OPL3 Southwest Division on 34 points, nine clear of second-place Railway City FC.

With her clinical finishing and consistent production, Maroudas has emerged as one of the league’s most dangerous attacking players and a driving force behind St. Catharines Roma’s outstanding campaign.

Emily Cirone – Whitby FC (OPL2)

Emily Cirone has continued to prove why she is regarded as one of the league’s top defenders.

After earning the OPL Women’s Defender of the Year award in 2025, the 25-year-old has carried that form into another strong campaign with Whitby FC. Cirone played the full 90 minutes in each of the club’s five victories during June, helping Whitby record three clean sheets while contributing at both ends of the pitch.

She also scored three goals during the month, bringing her season total to four while continuing to provide leadership from the back.

Whitby currently sits third in the OPL2 standings, just one point behind Hamilton United, with Cirone once again playing a central role as the club remains firmly in the hunt near the top of the table.

Hannah Chown – Simcoe County Rovers (OPL1)

Simcoe County Rovers have continued to set the pace in OPL1 this season, and Hannah Chown has been a key figure behind the club’s success.

The 24-year-old played every minute during an unbeaten June, helping the Rovers maintain their place atop the standings while extending their impressive undefeated campaign. Chown also found the scoresheet once during the month, adding an attacking contribution to her consistent defensive performances.

Just as importantly, she helped guide Simcoe to three clean sheets in June, reinforcing the club’s status as the strongest defensive side in OPL1. The Rovers sit first with 38 points and remain unbeaten through the season, opening a four-point advantage over second-place NDC Ontario.

As the race toward the finish intensifies, Chown remains a cornerstone of a Simcoe side chasing an unbeaten campaign and the OPL1 title.

As the playoff race continues to take shape across the province, Maroudas, Cirone and Chown each produced performances that stood out in June. Their consistency, leadership and impact have helped their clubs remain among the strongest sides in their respective divisions while earning recognition as this month’s OPL Women’s Three Stars.
