OPL alum Skublak thriving in CPL with Inter Toronto

The former OPL All-Star and top scorer banked his first for his new Canadian Premier League club last weekend.

Ontario Premier League alumni have been making waves already in the Canadian Premier League this season

In fact, four past OPL standouts were named to the CPL’s most recent Team of the Week: Morey Doner (Aurora), Isaiah Johnston (Woodbridge), Anthony Aromatario (Woodbridge) and Tomasz Skublak (most recently Scrosoppi).

Aromatario has already been in the spotlight this year for his breakout with Forge FC, having stepped into the CPL side’s starting XI after winning the OPL’s MVP award last season.

This past week, though, it was Skublak who stood out most. The 28-year-old Hamilton native has returned to the professional level with Inter Toronto, after spending the last few seasons with Scrosoppi FC. The 2025 OPL First Team All-Star is back in the CPL, having played for the Halifax Wanderers in 2019.

On Saturday in Calgary, Skublak played hero for Toronto, scoring a stunning no-look header to help his side bag an important 1-1 draw.

His road back to the pros wasn’t easy, though. Skublak — awarded the Gatorade Performance of the Match for his efforts — spoke on the OneSoccer broadcast after the game about how his hard work in the OPL led him to the CPL.

“It’s very important for guys just to keep their heads down and keep playing,” Skublak said. “At the end of the day, the saying is, cream rises to the top. If you just keep your head down, keep putting the ball in the net for my position specifically, keep working, the opportunity will present itself, and you’ve just got to take advantage of it when it comes.”

The striker had certainly been putting the ball in the net for Scrosoppi; over 47 games played in the past three years, he scored 44 goals.

Skublak has a history of scoring for several OPL sides; he was at Guelph United from 2021-22, and Vaughan Azzurri from 2017-18, prior to his first CPL stint.

Now, he has started all three of Inter Toronto’s games to start the 2026 season. If early signs are to be believed, Skublak should continue to thrive at the professional level.
