Wilson, Pinizzotto named OPL Coaches of the Month for July
The Simcoe County Rovers women’s and Woodbridge Strikers men’s coaches continued standout campaigns with strong performances throughout July
The Ontario Premier League’s Coaches of the Month for July 2026 were announced this week, with Simcoe County Rovers FC’s Zack Wilson (Women’s OPL1) and Woodbridge Strikers’ Peter Pinizzotto (Men’s OPL1) earning the honours.
Wilson guided Simcoe through a perfect month of July, with the Rovers winning every match while outscoring their opponents 19-3.
That run also saw Simcoe secure the 2026 Women’s OPL1 title with two matches remaining, officially making the Rovers back-to-back league champions. The latest triumph adds to an impressive stretch under Wilson, whose side has not lost since falling in the OPL Cup quarterfinals on May 26.
Their success has since extended beyond provincial competition. On Aug. 12, Simcoe defeated Northern Super League side Montreal Roses FC 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the inaugural W Canadian Championship, becoming the first Ontario Premier League club, men’s or women’s, to defeat a professional opponent in Canadian Championship competition.
The historic result added another milestone to an already memorable season for Wilson and the Rovers, who continue to establish themselves as one of the leading sides within the Canadian player pathway.
On the men’s side, Pinizzotto kept Woodbridge firmly in the race for the Men’s OPL1 title during a high-scoring July.
The Strikers scored 23 goals while conceding just nine in league play during the month, maintaining their place among the leading contenders for the championship despite a defeat to fellow title challenger Scrosoppi FC.
Woodbridge also continued its run in the OPL Cup, reaching the final as the lone OPL1 side remaining in the competition by the semifinal stage.
The Cup run offered Pinizzotto an opportunity to add to an already accomplished history with the competition. He previously guided Woodbridge to Cup titles in 2015 and 2017 and entered this year’s final in pursuit of a third Cup triumph.
The performances come one season after Pinizzotto was named the 2025 Men’s OPL1 Coach of the Year, with Woodbridge once again competing for silverware on multiple fronts under his leadership.
