Hoefler, Hogg named OPL Coaches of the Month for May

The Kingston Sentinels men’s and Pickering FC women’s coaches have led their teams to undefeated starts

The Ontario Premier League’s Coaches of the Month for May 2026 were announced this week, as Kingston Sentinels’ Christian Hoefler (Men’s OPL3) and Pickering FC’s Peter Hogg (Women’s OPL2) received the honours.

Hoefler has led Kingston to an outstanding start in their inaugural season. They strolled to a perfect 5-0-0 record in the month of May, scoring 15 goals while conceding just one. As a result, the unbeaten Sentinels sit in first place in OPL3’s Northeast Division, and have the best overall record across all of OPL3.

It’s been a successful return to the OPL so far for Hoefler, who previously coached the Kingston Clippers men’s team from 2015-16 and the women’s side in 2016. He is aiming to lead the Sentinels into OPL2 in just their first season.

Meanwhile, Hogg’s Pickering FC side have been dominant to begin the campaign. They’re eight points clear at the top of the Women’s OPL2 table through a perfect first seven games.

Pickering have proven equally capable of scoring as they are of shutting teams down, with a pair of 5-1 wins in May plus three lower-scoring clean-sheet victories. They have their sights set on promotion this year, and after two months they’re in pole position.

The Pickering squad features three of the top five scorers so far in Women’s OPL2, with Brianne Desa, Hope Windebank and Myanne Fernandez all on four goals each.
