OPL alumni Vanessa Gilles, Jade Rose and Olivia Smith named to Canada roster for Denmark series
Ontario trio among eight Canada selections with connections to the PSLC pathway
Three Ontario Premier League alumni have been named to Canada’s Women’s National Team roster for a pair of home matches against Denmark this October.
Vanessa Gilles, Jade Rose and Olivia Smith are among the 24 players selected by Head Coach Casey Stoney for Canada’s final international window before the 2026 Concacaf W Championship. They are also among eight players on the roster with connections to the Premier Soccer Leagues Canada pathway.
Gilles competed with West Ottawa SC in 2017 before making the jump to the professional game. The Ottawa product now plays for FC Bayern Munich and has established herself as a regular with Canada’s senior national team.
Rose has two seasons of experience in the Ontario pathway, having represented Unionville Milliken SC in 2017 and NDC Ontario in 2022. The 23-year-old defender now competes for Manchester City WFC.
Smith enjoyed a standout 2022 season with North Toronto Nitros, scoring a league-leading 18 goals in just 11 appearances. She earned the Golden Boot, Forward of the Year and Young Player of the Year honours before going on to begin her professional career in Europe. She now plays for Arsenal W.F.C.
Across the full Canada roster, Gabrielle Carle, Melissa Dagenais, Gilles, Kaylee Hunter, Emma Regan, Rose, Smith and Evelyne Viens have previously competed in leagues connected to the pathway now represented by PSLC.
Two additional members of the roster also made brief appearances within the pathway. Kadeisha Buchanan made one appearance for Vaughan Azzurri in Ontario in 2016 as she prepared for the Rio Olympic Games, while goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx made four appearances in Québec.
Collectively, their experience stretches across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Québec, including leagues that formed the former League1 Canada alliance before it was rebranded as Premier Soccer Leagues Canada in early 2026.
Canada will face Denmark on Friday, Oct. 9 at Stade Saputo in Montréal before closing out the window on Monday, Oct. 12 at BMO Field in Toronto.
