Patrice Gheisar named OPL Men’s Coach of the Month after leading Scrosoppi to title
Gheisar led Scrosoppi to a perfect August to capture the OPL1 championship
Scrosoppi FC manager Patrice Gheisar has been named Men’s Coach of the Month in the Ontario Premier League after an outstanding run in August.
Gheisar, in his first year at the helm of the Scrosoppi men’s team, led them to the OPL 1 championship this month. The honour was Scrosoppi’s second title in the last three years, and qualifies them for the 2027 TELUS Canadian Championship.
Scrosoppi won the title by one point, finishing ahead of the Woodbridge Strikers after a dramatic final weekend. They ended their campaign with a crucial 2-0 win over St Catharines Roma, clinching the trophy.
They had a perfect month of August, winning all four of their matches. In addition to the decisive win over St Catharines, they beat Burlington SC (2-0) and Vaughan Azzurri (4-2) before routing Simcoe County Rovers in a lopsided 13-0 triumph.
It was a remarkable end to the season for Scrosoppi, who finished the campaign with eight consecutive wins to shoot themselves up the table and capture the title.
Gheisar has a considerable track record of OPL success, spending four successful seasons as Vaughan’s head coach after many years as an assistant. He led them to a championship in 2022 before making the jump to the professional level. He spent three years at the helm of the Canadian Premier League’s Halifax Wanderers before returning this year to Ontario to lead Scrosoppi.
With the August award, Gheisar is the fifth different manager to be named OPL Men’s Coach of the Month in 2026, joining Oakville’s Duncan Wilde (April), Kingston Sentinels’ Christian Hoefler (May), Gabriel Poulino of Windsor City FC (June) and Woodbridge Strikers coach Peter Pinizzotto (July).
