Simcoe County Rovers, CS Mont-Royal Outremont set for inaugural W Canadian Championship

The two clubs that qualified through the 2025 Premier Soccer Leagues Canada system will represent the pathway on Canada’s national stage

Canada Soccer has announced the eight clubs that will compete in the inaugural W Canadian Championship, with Simcoe County Rovers FC and CS Mont-Royal Outremont earning qualification after reaching the final of the 2025 League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship.

The two clubs met in the 2025 League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship Final, where Simcoe County Rovers claimed a 2-0 victory to secure the club’s first national title. The win also made Simcoe the first Ontario Premier League (formerly League1 Ontario) club to lift the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship, while both finalists secured places in the inaugural W Canadian Championship.

The inaugural competition will feature six Northern Super League sides alongside Simcoe County Rovers and CS Mont-Royal Outremont, providing both teams with the opportunity to test themselves against Canada’s professional women’s clubs. The winner will advance to represent Canada in the 2027 Concacaf W Champions Cup, continuing the pathway toward the 2028 FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.

Simcoe County Rovers will face Northern Super League side Roses de Montréal FC in a single-match quarterfinal on Wednesday, August 12 at Stade Boréale, while CS Mont-Royal Outremont will take on Calgary Wild FC on Wednesday, August 5 at ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows.

Quarterfinal Schedule

  • Aug. 3: Halifax Tides FC vs. Ottawa Rapid FC
  • Aug. 5: Calgary Wild FC vs. CS Mont-Royal Outremont
  • Aug. 12: Roses de Montréal FC vs. Simcoe County Rovers FC
  • Oct. 4: AFC Toronto vs. Vancouver Rise FC

All quarterfinals will be decided in a single knockout match, with the competition resuming in 2027 for the semifinals and final.

After qualifying through the 2025 League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship, Simcoe County Rovers and CS Mont-Royal Outremont now have the opportunity to test themselves against Canada’s top professional women’s clubs.
