From the OPL to the CPL: Jacob Cabral Earns Second Call-Up with Inter Toronto FC
Inter Toronto FC have once again called upon OPL talent, signing midfielder Jacob Cabral to a Short-Term Replacement Contract from Inter Toronto Pathway ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Premier League match.
The call-up marks Cabral’s second short-term opportunity with the CPL club this season, after previously joining the squad for Inter Toronto FC’s 2026 home opener on Saturday, April 11.
The 20-year-old Canadian midfielder continues to emerge as one of the standout young players developed through the Ontario Premier League pathway. Cabral starred for Scrosoppi FC during the 2025 OPL1 season (formerly League1 Ontario Men’s Premier Division), where he was named the league’s Young Player of the Year following an impressive campaign in midfield.
Now earning another opportunity at the professional level, Cabral’s continued involvement with Inter Toronto reflects the growing connection between the OPL and the CPL, with players increasingly progressing through the domestic pathway.
His second call-up of the 2026 season also highlights the role Inter Toronto Pathway continues to play in supporting player development and creating opportunities for emerging Canadian talent.
As Cabral joins the squad once again this weekend, his journey serves as another example of the pathway connecting Ontario’s top young players to the professional game in Canada.
