2026 OPL Cup Kicks Off Tuesday with Opening Night Doubleheader
Round One of the competition begins April 7 with men’s and women’s fixtures

Round One of the 2026 Ontario Premier League Cup presented by the Johan Cruyff Institute gets underway Tuesday, April 7, officially launching the first edition of the competition under the OPL banner.
The opening night features the first match in both the men’s and women’s Round One slate. Sigma FC hosts North Mississauga SC in the men’s competition at 8 p.m. ET at Hamilton Stadium, followed by FC London welcoming Richmond Hill SC in the women’s competition at 8:30 p.m. ET at Tricar Field.
Formerly known as the League1 Cup, the competition enters a new era in 2026, bringing together top “A” teams from across the province in a knockout format. Round One continues through Sunday, April 12.
Sigma FC vs. North Mississauga SC open men’s Round One
Tuesday’s men’s opener brings back a familiar Mississauga matchup.
Sigma FC and North Mississauga SC have not faced each other since June 10, 2023, when they played to a 2-2 draw before the league’s divisional split separated the two sides. Now, they meet again to open men’s Round One, adding a renewed edge to the matchup.
Both teams will be looking to turn the page from 2025.
Sigma, competing in OPL 1, were knocked out in Round One last year in an upset loss to Pickering FC, an OPL 2 side. North Mississauga, meanwhile, got past Master’s FA in a penalty shootout in Round One before falling to FC London in another shootout in the next round.
With that recent history and plenty still to prove, Tuesday’s match offers both clubs an early chance to set the tone.
FC London vs. Richmond Hill SC kick off women’s Round One
On the women’s side, the first match of Round One features one of the competition’s most established sides against a new entrant.
FC London enters with strong Cup pedigree, having won the competition in 2024 and reached the semifinals in 2025. The club also showed its ability to deliver in pressure moments last season, coming back late in a promotion/relegation playoff before winning in a penalty shootout to remain in OPL 1.
They open against a Richmond Hill SC side making its OPL Cup debut. After appearing as a guest team at the U-20 level in recent years, Richmond Hill enters the senior women’s competition for the first time.
Tuesday’s doubleheader officially opens Round One and sets the stage for the rest of the week’s OPL Cup action.
