Tomasz Skublak’s Full-Circle Path Back to the CPL

For Tomasz Skublak, the journey back to the Canadian Premier League has come full circle — and the Ontario Premier League played a central role in getting him there. Seven years later, the OPL pathway has led him back to the pros, as Skublak has signed with the CPL’s Inter Toronto for 2026.
The 28-year-old Canadian striker first stepped into the professional ranks in 2019, making 25 appearances for the Halifax Wanderers during the CPL’s inaugural season, scoring four goals and adding two assists.
After that experience at the national professional level, Skublak returned to Ontario’s top pro-am environment — then known as League1 Ontario — focused on refining his game and continuing to prove himself.
What followed was one of the most prolific scoring stretches in recent league history.
Across spells with Vaughan Azzurri, Guelph United and Scrosoppi FC, Skublak scored 56 goals in 65 OPL matches since 2017, consistently ranking among the division’s most dangerous attacking threats. His standout 2023 campaign with Scrosoppi saw him net 35 goals in 33 regular season appearances, earning Men’s Premier Division Most Valuable Player honours and solidifying his place among the league’s top talents.
The OPL provided the consistency and competitive edge that allowed him to elevate his game. Week after week, he led the line, carried attacking responsibility and delivered in high-pressure moments.
That environment also created opportunities beyond league play. During his time at the OPL level, Skublak featured in the TELUS Canadian Championship for Guelph United against his former pro club the Wanderers — a valuable test against a fully professional side that further demonstrated his ability to compete at the national level.
Now set to return to the CPL with Inter Toronto ahead of the 2026 season, Skublak’s journey reflects the strength of the Ontario Premier League and the broader Premier Soccer Leagues Canada structure within Canada’s evolving player pathway.
Inter Toronto Head Coach Mauro Eustáquio believes the striker’s experience and consistency at the OPL level have prepared him for another opportunity in the professional ranks.
“Tomasz is a striker who adds different qualities to our front line,” said Eustáquio. “He has shown over several seasons that he knows how to score and impact matches. He brings work ethic, hunger and a proven track record of goals in all levels he has played.”
Progression is rarely linear. In Skublak’s case, it has included an initial CPL opportunity, a dominant return to Ontario’s top tier and another step back onto the professional stage. His story underscores the OPL’s role as both a proving ground and a springboard — a league where sustained performance can translate into professional opportunity.
For Skublak, the belief never wavered. In Ontario, he sharpened his craft, embraced leadership and delivered consistently. Now, with another opportunity at the professional level, his full-circle path stands as a reminder of what the OPL can offer: a platform to grow, to compete and to take the next step.
